Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown named as new coach for St George FC
St George FC have announced a coaching change ahead of this weekend’s Round 14 fixture, with Raphael Marie departing the club and veteran coach Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown taking charge of the senior side.
Brown, who has been serving as the club’s Coaching Director, will now lead the Saints as they attempt to turn around their season.
Marie returned to St George this year after previously enjoying success with the club’s Under 20s squad, guiding them to the 2023 League One Men’s title. His departure comes with the side currently sitting tenth on the NPL Men’s NSW ladder after 13 rounds.
The Saints remain within touching distance of the finals positions, trailing the top six by four points, but have struggled for results in recent weeks. Their most recent victory came back in Round 6 with a 2-0 win over Sydney Olympic FC.
Club Chairman Bruce Spiteri thanked Marie for his efforts and confirmed Brown would lead the team moving forward.
“We thank Raphael Marie for his time and dedication,” Spiteri said.
“Brian Brown, our Coaching Director, will step in to lead the coaching staff going forward.”
Brown arrives with one of the most accomplished résumés in the NSW football scene. The experienced Scotsman has coached a number of major clubs including Blacktown City FC, Marconi Stallions, Sutherland Sharks, Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Hills United.
Across his coaching career, Brown has collected multiple Coach of the Year awards, earning the honour in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
His first challenge in charge will come against Blacktown City FC at Landen Stadium this Sunday, with St George FC hoping a change in leadership can spark a strong second half of the campaign.
