By Tony Peters
It will be a “new look “St George FC in many ways when they begin the 2026 NPL season against Wollongong Wolves at Barton Park on Saturday night.
There will be a new coach in the “dugout”, the player’s playing strip is from a new apparel partner, and the much-changed playing squad will include EIGHT new signings with NPL playing experience.
Heading up the list is arguably the biggest name to play in the NPL with former Australian, Sydney FC, West Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory mid fielder Terry Antonis joining the club in a massive coup.
The smart recruiting campaign has also seen industrious NPL mid fielder Chris McStay join the list -he will provide technical ability a winning attitude and versatility.
Joining him in switching from nearby Rockdale linden is goalkeeper Nick Sorras who has A League experience with Perth Glory and previous NPL experience at Sydney Olympic.
Signing a striker was a top priority and Jake Trew has made the move from Marconi Stallions having played in the Australian Championships. He brings both NPL experience having played 90 matches so far and goal scoring ability having scored 20 goals and providing 8 assists so far.
Attacking forward Harry Keys will add pace after playing in the winning NWS Spirit FC NPL team last season. He played in the NPL finals and Australian Championships in 2025.
The club’s search for new signings took them to South Australia where they signed attacking mid fielder Katsuyoshi Kimishima from the Adelaide Premier League club Croatia Raiders. The 27-year-old played previously in the South Australian NPL with Adelaide City. He played his junior football in Japan.
Another to join with some NPL experience is left sided defender Stevan Stanic Floody- the 22-year-old moved from Mt Druitt Town Rangers NPL club having played 13 games in 2025
Completing the impressive list of new signings is second goalkeeper Sebastian La Luz – the 22-year-old made the move from Bankstown United and has played in the NPL previously with Apia Leichhardt. He provides the depth that will be need for the demanding 30 game season.
Coach Raphael Marie is delighted with the club’s recruiting.
“All players have NPL experience, many of whom have won honours.”
‘We have built a group to be competitive in every game; it is a 30-game season and playing depth will be most important.”
“It is a close-knit unit”
The signing of Terry Antonis is an important one.
“Terry is a transformative signing, he brings experience, a winning culture and great qualities. He becomes a magnet for players – he saw the vision and wanted to join.”
