St George FC win season opener

St George FC began their NPL Men’s NSW campaign with an emphatic 3-0 win over Wollongong Wolves at Barton Park on Saturday night.

The Saints dominated the first half and were rewarded for their dominance with goals from Jaden Casella and new signing Chris McStay.

Replacement striker Harrison Farrow completed the scoring when he struck in stoppage time to “cap off” a great start to the new season.

Coach Raphael Marie was pleased with both the performance and the result.

“I think we came out wanting to play good football and we got some good outcomes” he said.

“We want to play good football and score more goals.

In the second half we had to bunker in a bit and credit to the boys for how they handled it”

The standout performers for the Saints were new signings Chris McStay and Jake Trew along with Jaden Casella.

St George FC will look to continue their “bright” start to the season when they play the local derby away against St George City who lost their season opener 1-0 to Manly United.

They are then away to Sutherland Sharks in Round 3.
