Former Socceroo Mark Milligan To Make A Nostalgic Return To Barton Park With His A League Team.
Mark Milligan, the newly appointed coach of the Newcastle Jets -A League team, will bring his squad to Barton Park next Wednesday night, July 16th for a trial match against St George FC.
The match with St George FC is part of important preparations for the Jets A League season.
It is also a great occasion for St George FC.
‘St George FC recognises Mark Milligan’s position as Head Coach of the Newcastle Jets” and his links with the club.
“Mark had his first coaching experience with St George FC in 2022, “said Club Chairman Bruce Spiteri.
He added “It is a great chance for our younger players to shine and test themselves against a higher standard.”
“St George FC is always looking to strengthen its commitment to the local community, bringing an A League club to the district is part of our attempts to engage,” said Bruce Spiteri.
The match gives St George FC players the opportunity to be identified and for the club to showcase its talents.
Bruce Spiteri is realistic “we envisage in future a natural progression of some of our younger players being picked up by A League clubs.”
Mark Milligan was recently at the NPL match between St George FC and Apia Leichhardt with Assistant Coach Nick Stavroulakis.
Milligan has recently served as an Assistant Coach with the Malaysian National Team.
Prior to this, he was Assistant Coach of Adelaide United from 2022 to 2025.
He knows the importance of connecting with the community.

Having played for the club (2008-2009) I spent time in Newcastle and I am aware of the fans desire to see a certain brand of football based on a high energy attacking style of play”
Sitting equal 8th in the all-time Socceroo appearances with 80 caps, his resume also includes two A League Premierships and One A League Championship.
